You should be able to pull 1 memory card out and replace it with a full gig stick.$25-35. You will be amazed at how it responds. Most older laptops wont recognize any higher. For reasons I dont know, it will will use the gig and the original 256 giving you 1.25 gig memory. But wont "see" anything higher in the second slot.

Good idea Venom. I had thought about going to 1 gig but didn't want to toss the two 256'* not knowing how much I would gain. I thought I would have to replace them in pairs. Thanks for the tip!

It;* beginning to look like the 512 is the largest module available for my system (pc133) but I can still get up to 1 gig for about 40 bucks.

You said old, but I wasn"t thinking 133. Ya, the full gig will really stabilize the system, and it will run much cooler. Temperature and browser/video performance wise. I assume it XP. Which they sold a ton of @ 512 Mb. But that will always run you into trouble when you step above the Basic Software provided.

The more memory you can stuff into a computer, the less read and write your hard drive does and the better long term use and performance you get out of it.

Yeah, it'* a Dell C400 Latitude. I'm running XP Pro. I really am surprised at how well it performs though and it'* just the right size for school. 12" screen and full size keyboard. Much easier to type on than a netbook and less than 4 lbs. Plus the price was right.

Todd, use gmail for your day to day and use roadrunner for things you want to be sure are secure. Never pay a bill, or use a 2nd party email provider in respect to bill accounts, merchants, or especially paypal. Why the heck so muched archived email? You waiting to get old and write an epic of your electronic life??

Crece, I am surprised your Dell with XP Pro loaded doesnt lock up all the time. 512Mb is considered minimal for the standard edition.
