I'm worried that the jumpiness of my Bonne will freak out the instructor. The Minsitry of Transportation instructor need to loosen the top button a bit. If they relax you relax and you can be more natural when taking the test

1983, I had Mr. Bacchus (an Indian gentleman). He had just had a bad day with the other wiley drivers. I was driving N on US-31 between South Bend, IN and Niles, MI, when up ahead about 500 yards, a Chevette pulled out in front of me from a parking lot. Having driven (full control of the vehicle) since 10 years of age, I was good at guaging distances and felt no need to slow down as the speed limit was a mere 40 mph. Mr. Bacchus, on the other hand, was VERY uptight, and proceeded to panic. He slamed on the brake (the vehicle was equipped with a passenger-side brake pedal) and locked up all four wheels. I nearly peed my pants. He said that I almost hit the Chevette and that he had to do slow us down to miss it. Funny thing is that I still passed. I think he realized that he overreacted.

I had an '84 Chevette Sport--radio delete, 5 speed manual last year as my winter beater. They are slow--especially one with a slushbox. I have a cousin who has one that won't go over 60 mph. I was "warned" for speeding in mine--72 in a 45. Someone had put 14" tires and rims on it. It originally came with 13'*, My speedo said I was running 50 mph. I would take it up to 65 no problem (according to the speedo). I have no idea how fast I was really going.
Some people are puting 3.8 and 4.3 conversions in them I wanted to do that to mine--but the body was too far gone. The only weak drivetrain part in the Chevette (asside from the underpowered 1.6 liter) was the rear axle. When mated to the 3.8, the axle would twist and snap. Put a decent axle in and you have a pocket rocket. The fastest Chevette I heard of had a turbo 3.8. It caught on fire because of the heat generated under the hood and the lack of clearence for the turbos. I have no specs on that chevette.

The options included the "Sport" graphics and stripes on the side, the five speed (as opposed to the four), and a blacked out antenna that went to no radio at all. It did have a glove box door, though. It was a two door hatch with holes behind the rear wheels that sprayed mud up on the inside of my rear window. I took a can of foam in a can and blocked those real quick--didn't want the fumes or the cold getting in during the winter.
