The fact that you are overfilling and possibly turning your car into a bomb by filling a tube that should be a vent is evident. That'* probably where the excess fuel is going.

The reason they print it on almost every pump and the owners manual is to keep that from happening

just put in 19.96 gallons at a BP. and i still had a bit in the tank. i'm guessing that i'm not getting ripped off. but rather, i might have a 20 gal. tank. todd said that he had the tank replaced...might they have put in a slightly larger one? i'll never know...but i DO know that i can without much sweat fit 20 gallons into my tank. in granny mode...that'* nearly 60 miles worth!

ok...last time i top off the tank like this....since bill is getting mad at me for it. but here'* the results:

4 top-offs. tank wasn't empty completely cause i drove car to all pumps. no stalling on turns or hills...so some gas was still sloshing around in there.

1st 19.38 g Shell
2nd 20.39 g Different Shell
3rd 19.97 g BP
4th 20.24 g Marathon

So, my conclusion is that i am not being ripped off. one of the stations had been inspected by the state weights and measures division on the 10th. i must have a 20 gallon tank. and with the filler neck and a fully empty tank...i could probably stuff 20.5 to 21 gallons in it. go figure. when todd replaced my gas tank...he must have had a 20 gallon tank put in and didn't realize it. in any case, i can drive farther than any of you!!!

I think a larger tank would be nice to have. Any chance of getting info as to its origins?
