Just picked up my 2000 Bravada
Hey all! Just picked up my new-to-me 2000 Olds Bravada AWD today. What a nice vehicle! Ours has 72k on it and drives like a dream.
Two things concern me a bit and should be rectified by the dealership we bought it through, but I thought I'd run them by you guys first.
One is that the moonroof acts like it catches when you go to actually open it (vents just fine). It'll drop down and then there will be a thud (where it catches and then gets by) and it'll open the rest of the way like normal. However, when you are actually going down the road, it will catch and stay. I tried to adjust the glass portion down, but it looked like it was already all the way down. When you look at it from the top with it seated in it'* normal position, the center looks higher than the ends. It'* either the roof has been pushed down a bit or the glass has heaved up some in the center (I vote for the former).
The second issue is that there is a slight vibration that kinda peaks at around 50-55mph. It is practically unnoticable and would be if it weren't for a loose screw in the driver'* rear door that rattles as the vibration picks up. You can hear the vibration more than feel it at lower speeds so I don't think that it is just a wheel out of balance. Other than the vibration, the car drives like it'* new. Is the vibration signs of something going wrong in the drivetrain? How reliable are these AWD setups?
Any help is greatly appreciated. As soon as I get some time to snap some pictures, I'll post them up. It'* a very clean vehicle. We bought it to replace our '97 Ram extended cab 4x4. We are expecting a baby (due June 4th) and needed something that either of us can easily load a kid and all associated baggage into and out of. The Bravada does all of this in class. It'* a nice complement to my '01 Bonneville SSEi and I am very excited to have my garage back to GM only!
Thanks again for any insight!

Could it be wheel bearings of sorts? Recently had front bearings done on mom'* Altima, you'd get the noise at 70km/h, then disappear, and come back by 110 or 120km/h with more ferocity.

Yeah, it'* quite possible that it'* the wheel bearings, but I haven't had a chance to get it up on jackstands to check them. I just need to find out what it is because I know that the dealership is just going to say that they can't hear it or feel it and not do a thing about it. I've got 60 days or 3,000 (whichever is first) to figure it out.

my neighbor has a 2k bravada, except his is green though. only problems hes had with it in the 4 years that he has had it was the following:
2 flat tires
bad radiator cap
and he currently has this issue where one morning every now and then, he will come out to a dead battery <he leaves nothing on at all>
sometimes the rear hatch glass will open without reason
and he has one tire that has a slow leak, sometimes <could be a rim>
it does seem a little underpowered IMO, but with a wheel chair lift on the back, it does alright given there is a 350 pound wheel chair on there sometimes. also, whatever you do, do not leave it idling unattended for long periods of time, it will heat up, sometimes past the point of no return. but other than that, the truck has served him well, almost making his AAA a waste of money.
btw, that smart trak all wheel drive is awesome, getting you out of prettymuch anything.
