Back to my roots, Mrs V and I spent Saturday visiting a son in Astoria/Queens, NYC. She got her first subway ride from there to Times Square and back. I took alot of pics of Times Square all lit up at night.

Went to dinner in Manhattan last Friday night. After weeks of research, found a Peter Luger clone without the attitude and poor location. Highly recommend Wolfgangs Steakhouse. Get the bacon appaitizer and steak for 2. A meal you will never forget.

Guns, Did you visit the one in the old Vanderbilt? We went to the Midtown one once because we heard it wasn't as pricey. Drinks were good, food a little better than average, but the Staff slightly rude and inattentive. The Park Ave one is beyond awesome just for the spectecle of the vaulted hemispherical tiled ceilings. Now that I'm married I find it hard to take her to a $300+ dinner. But it is one of those things you really have to experience at least once. I don't particularly like bacon. But for a bacon lover ya, 3 would make a meal in itself. I had the crabcakes for the appetizer. I forget what they call the sauce they put on the cheesecake, but the combination is to die for.

I can't beleive we ate at the same place. I found it after reading over 300 reviews about Peter Luger'*. How did you find it?

We visited the one in Tribeca, near the financial district. I am not sure if it is the same location you are referring to. We expected the staff to be rude and innatentive. We we discovered is that they were extreme professionals. We arrived early and overheard some very wealthy and spoiled clients and I can suspect that can be a crucible experience over time for a server. Our waiter warmed up to us about halfway through dinner.

Arriving early was key. We were only a couple, but got the bet table in the house which was meant for a party of four. We had the cheescake also, and all I can say is wow. The call is scholloge or something like it (the magical wip creme).

We won't eat out for months, but $300 on that dinner was well worth it. I will repeat and say the key is to arrive early, before the main crowd......

There are 3 Wolfgang'* locations in Manhattan. hehehe

I did some growing up and have family in Queens. One of my sons (of this visit) lives there in the old Astoria section a block from 31st under the N train. He works as a fashion designer in Manhattan. Wolfgang'*/Park Avenue is the original and as I mentioned in the old Vanderbilt Hotel Dining Room. It is a favorite place to take clients for business lunches in the crowd he mixes with. Never been to the 2nd one built in Tribeca that you visited. The one I wasn't impressed with is the newest one in Midtown East on E. 54th St. We were told at the Park Ave. location that Wolfgang was the Head Waiter at Lugers for many years, and improved what he learned. Ya, the steak and cheese cake at both were excellent, I even almost liked the creamed spinach (not a spinach fan). Just really turned off by the staff at the new one. Don't know if us being dressed very casual on that occasion or the newness of the operation were to blame, but I will definitely chose the Park Ave location if we do it again.
