Default Suburban is messed up

Well my dad'* '95 suburban is messed up and is running really crappy. When you turn it on, the engine sort of sputters and then the RPMs go down and it shuts off. When your driving it, its like your getting no power whatsoever. You have to push the pedal all the way to the ground and then all of a sudden the RPMs kick up and then you get the push. When you are gradually pushing the pedal down you get sudden surges of power from the engine. I don't know whats going on. We tried the EGR valve and that wasn't it. If any of you could help out that would be just grand.

**** dude.. my dad had the EXACT same problem, except his is a diesel, and could idle at 300rpm with no problems. If you can get a scantool on it, try to. This is a PCM issue. When his was acting up with this, a scantool could not communicate to the PCM, or if it did, it wasn't consistant in it'* readings, and it would drop out frequently. I don't think 95 was full OBDII, so I do not know if Autozone, or the like can scan it. Your best bet, is to try and tap on the PCM [it'* behind the glovebox]. If that doesn't work.. try resetting it [pull both batteries {do the gas Suburban'* have two batteries?} overnight. I know his didn't reset in 30 minutes.. and it'* not like it'* drivable as-is, so overnight won't hurt]. Post back your results.

It could be. Something in the back of my head is yelling at me "MAF! MAAAAAAAAAAF!"

But I'm no expert.

Check your fuel pressure......filter, and make sure the pump sounds alright. Actually sounds a lil like injectors to me.....but still scan it.

This is true, my dad also recently replaced the Fuel Pump in his.. it had rusted out, and leaked fuel. But it pumped just fine. It'* a simple replacement on a Suburban, since the fuel pump sits right on the chassis.

RepinS: Diesels don't have MAF Sensors.. and this is the exact same problem my dad had.. I am guessing they are related, so I am doubting that being the cause.
