The server is locked in a data center at an ISP in Dallas. I'm in Minnesota, so there was no tripping over power cords

The server never technically went down. It just got waaaay overloaded. I got an IM about 9:30 this evening telling me things were very slow. When I checked, the server was so bogged down that it would take minutes to run commands in the shell. The load average was over 80 when I was finally able to kill some rouge processes. For comparison, the load average as I type this is 0.29.

I have a pretty good idea of what caused the problem, but for security reasons I'm not going to disclose it.

Sorry about the downtime!

Jeff

I figured if it was a funny way to ask what happened. I feel wierd going online when the forum is down because BC has sooo little downtime that when it actually is down, it seems like forever.

I can't say how thankful I am of all the people who put time and money to keep the forum alive.
