so our cars are rice??
wings and spoilers are way different
Spoilers, by design, are largely non-functional. The low profile doesn't catch much air. It is cosmetic.

So, here we run into some similarities between our spoilers and ricer'* wings. They may view it as cosmetic, which is okay. But if you talk to them (not all of them, mind you), they'll tell you till they're blue in the face that it gave them more performance. That'* the difference. They think it actually helps. I know this by personal experience that they speak in this manner.

One Cavalier that cruises around here is fully dressed up for show. I asked him if he wanted to race, and he replied, "It looks fast, right? Right? It looks fast!!"

He knew that everything he had done was purely cosmetic. That, to me, is far more acceptable than one who thinks it modified his 1/4-mile time for the better.

Some cars do run fast with a big wing on the back, but its because it came stock fast. So how would we rate the famous Roadrunner? That had one goofy wing on the back.

As I mentioned above, the Roadrunner is RWD. Fast RWD cars need that wing to keep the rear end on the ground so that the drive stays stuck to the road. The Toyota Supra is RWD as well. They need the wing.

Civics and Accords are FWD. The wing will lower the back end, thus raising the front end, making less traction.

As is mentioned by Rogue and various others, if you have a fast FWD car, you want to raise the rear to put the weight differential to the front.

Almost every fwd car you see out there with a wing or a spoiler is almost always cosmetic. And yes sometimes it looks goofy, but if they think it looks good, then more power to em.

One of the only options to stabilize the rear-end of a FWD car would be a "rear air defuser", but as with the wing it only does you any good around 100-mph and above.
I, personally, am surprised to see so many people with negative attitudes about imports. I do agree that doing these things to MOST imports is a waste of money, but you are all really missing the big picture. What makes, what you are doing with your car, any better than what they are doing? Any of you, that have done ANYTHING to modify your car, has no room to talk. You have made your car into something it wasn't supposed to be to begin with. And let'* face it, even if they are doing it for girls (like that hasn't been the case for as long as cars have been around ) or what ever, they are still into their cars and have driven the market for after market parts far beyond what it was a few years ago. Those of you criticizing, must sound like the people that said the same about muscle cars decades ago. Ignorant.

I modify my car a lot, but I dont go around talking **** and trying to be Eminem. Its a hobby for me, its not my life as most of these tuners live by their cars. If I could afford it I would buy the car of my dreams and never modify it because it is allready the best for me.

That, my friend, is ignorant. You have just generalized everyone that owns an import. Thanks for proving my point

Explain how it is ignorant? I never said all tuners do that, now did I? But a hell of a lot do it anyways. Hat backwards, window rolled down, left arm more than halfway across his or her chest on the steering wheel and right arm on the automatic/manual stick on the ground.

You have stereotyped a group of people because of the car they drive. That is ignorant
