Return of Rear Wheel drive
Supprizingly the worst handling car I ever drove was RWD. A 89 Grand Marquis.
All the trucks (full size pickups) I drive for landscaping arn't much better. I need to be seasoned to some good handling RWD cars. I know RWD handles better than front in most senerios. I just haven't had my good RWD car cherry poped yet.
Oh, Jason, I just read the Motor Trend article from new March 2007 issue page 77. It is the Vortec engine. 6.0L Vortec V8 with 362hp. Actually that is going to be the only engine for the G8 so they say. The Imala on the other hand will have the 3.6L, 5.3L DOD, and the new 6.2L V8 in the SS.

just to settle my point....
in 1966 there were over 40,000 Toronados sold
and only 21,000 Cutlasses
what does that say?
But yes, i think RWD is superior in all forms, ever.

I'll be willing to wager the G8 has the 3.6 VVT w/ 5 speed auto and the GXP coming with a 6.0 w/ 6 speed. Lack of options killed the GTO incarnate, which was a specialized car. A "family" car requires options.
the Pontiac website does say 261-hp V6 and 362-hp V8 with a 6 speed auto standard for the V8. The pictures show a manual but I can not tell if it is a 5 or 6. Could change by the time it comes out too.

FWD'* advantages are a small package that is easy to install and leaves more room n the rest of the vehicle. It'* relatively inexpensive. While some of the heavier and performance oriented cars are going back to RWD, I'm sure the rest of the line will remain FWD. A person motivated to buying a "Vibe" isn't going to care how the motor moves it.
Personally, I'm happy to see RWD in the G8.
