Some time ago i was reading some automotive magazine publication car&driver, or Road&track something like that, and basically what they were saying was that Pontiacs have become to...well...too wussed out. Since Pontiac was originally the "sport car only" division of GM they were going back to that heritage by releasing more cars that were RWD, and less cars that were FWD, therefore taking back their original claim to fame... but thats just what i read like 10 months ago. (or so)

Yes RWD is returning in 2008. The funny thing is, is that the high performance G8 and Impala SS are going to use the new vortec truck engines. One 6.0L with 367hp and the all new 6.2L with 405hp.

Nothing inherently wrong with RWD. FWD isn't much better in snow, it'* just more predictable.

Incorrect, as of now the G8 has a 3.6 V6, and a 6.0 V8 @ 36x HP. The V8 is a holden design, not a vortec engine.

Front wheel drive has it'* limits. In terms of efficiency of moving the vehicle, Mid engine is the best layout, followed by RWD, AWD, and FWD.

FWD'* advantages are a small package that is easy to install and leaves more room n the rest of the vehicle. It'* relatively inexpensive. While some of the heavier and performance oriented cars are going back to RWD, I'm sure the rest of the line will remain FWD. A person motivated to buying a "Vibe" isn't going to care how the motor moves it.

Personally, I'm happy to see RWD in the G8.

Another thing,

FWD cars can't handle worth a crap, unless you drive an Integra Type-R or something.

RWD with a nice suspension setup makes for a very fun car.

It'* very simple: It'* what the customers are asking for. It'* about time GM starts listening to it'* customers. Afterall, we're the only ones that can help their sales.
