Default Muffler shop

I went to get some estimates on getting the exhaust on my car done. The first shop I went to was an older gentlement who told me that he would rather not work on the car because it would be too hard to do...

The second shop I went to, the guy pulled the car in, put it on a hoist, and looked at me funny and asked 'what the hell do you want me to do to it?' I told him I wanted to only make the exhaust a little bit louder than stock, but not loud. I asked what types of mufflers he had in stock, or what he would suggest doing to it. He just said "well if you want it only a little bit louder, just take a f*cking hammer and some nails to the exhaust.. I'm sure it'll sound good enough for someone like you." (note he was really an *** and snotty as he was saying it) Every place I've been, the people are asses about it, and think it is crazy to put anything other than stock on the car. I'm sure you other guys are going through the same thing too. It just really pisses me off! He said he could get some Flowmaster series 40, (two of them since my car has two mufflers like the 2000+ bonneville'* do) but that would be 'just plain stupid on this car.' I'm going to just leave this car stock.. tired of putting up with all the hassle. Next is struts.. gee.. wonder what they're going to say about that when I tell them I want something stiffer so my car doesn't ride like a sponge anymore.

I had my exhaust done by a GOOD exhaust shop for under 350 total. Sounds great, and performs better.

I kinda had the same reaction at first, but when they heard the car stock and realized my excitement they were excited to work on the "most custom 80'* Bonneville in Ontario"

You need to find a good exhaust shop, that specializes in performance part, forget Midas or Meineke or whatever.

Or find an independent person, if possible. Someone you know that does that kind of stuff. Maybe a mechanic at a school. I was referred to a mechanic who works at my brother'* g/f'* (former) high school. He changed my bro'* muffler and put a new CAT in. It was only stock, but he did a good job. So I went to him to install my muffler.

Anyway, he fit it in nicely and only charged me $65 (for 3 hours labor). Not bad! I gave him $80 and was happily on my way. Of course not everyone has connections, but if you did you could get it done well and cheaper.

I don't trust Midas or any muffler shop like that so I lucked out with this guy.
