Default Digital Camera

Hey all,

Well I was at the cottage this weekend and I dropped my old digital camera... nothing special, quite old... only did 640x480... and no zoom.

So it'* time to UPGRADE...

I was looking for something around the $400 mark (Cdn), nothing more then $600.
Canon seems to be the big name in camera'* these days.

I'm looking for something with optical zoom, lithium-ion battery, and that takes memory cards. I was wondering what other people in the club had?

And if anyone has any pointers what to look for in a camera and what to avoid.

Dude stay away from my stuff :P you dropped it??

Our new camera is a Canon Powershot 400 or something like that, as far as I know it has all those things you want. And its not so idiot small that you can't handle the damn thing.

Now my PowerShot 600 from 1996... that thing is HUGE, but still takes good pics

Well.. I didn't drop it from my hands..... it was in my shirt pocket, and I bent over to move a log towards the fire pit... for something to sit on... and it slipped out, and BANG on a rock.

I might have been able to catch it... but I had a beer in one hand, and that would have required the risk of spilling my beer.....hehe

I managed to download all the photos that were in the camera, but she won't be taking anymore pix.

Canon S400 or something that like... yea I was looking at those... how do you like it?

My dad primarily uses it, just cuz I have a hard time letting old things go...

But it works really good. I have played around with it a bit. When it comes time for me to buy one, that probably the one that I would consider

Sony DSC series. Great cameras, unmatchable optics. You've seen my pics

Anything with Casio written on it. All great stuff.

IE: a QV-R40, 4MP, compact, very fast between pic time. About $450 CDN.

I'm going to agree with Wren on this. I got myself a Sony DSC-P10, and WOW! It'* nice and compact, ion-lithium battery, memory stick and quite a few other features.

My Olympus is a great little camera. About $399 Cdn. Only 2.0 mega pixels. It'* a year old so maybe you can get the 3.2 mega pixel that used to be in the $700 range cheaper now. I have a few memory cards. The 16 Megabit card will hold 130 medium resolution pics and the 64 megabit card will hold 4 x more. I've never run out of room.
Downloads directly onto the computer or you can plug it into any TV monitor and watch the shots anywhere.
It even takes 2 minute video clips on the 16 mb card....no sound. You'd have to pay a bit more than $400. for fancy features.
2 mega pixels is fine unless you want super fine resolution or are doing blow ups larger than 8 x 10.
Remember guys we're talking Canadian currency here.
