So my brother and I discover this looking out our front door... carpenter ants! Big. And with wings.
We first thought they were bees - lots of "oh ****, we're screwed" going around. Alas, still, ants.
They seemed to have come in through that hole in the silicone caulking...

The aftermath, post-Raid, temporarily

Pardon the Christmas lights.

yeah, i hate Geocities, they give me plenty of bandwidth for the month (hookups through the ISP, it'* not the standard Geocities stuff) and yet they still only allow a limit per hour
the videos still work, so that should suffice

heh, those lights have been there for at least the past couple of years. They're inconspicuous from the outside, it'* when you're looking from inside the house that you notice it :P
hmm, they may not even be carpenter ants at all, I always thought the ones with wings were the carpenter ants. But, on another forum I frequent, a bloke mentioned that wings mean that they're in "mating mode" and are flying off to create new nests.

I found ants in my garage after I bought my house and they ate up some of the interior wood walls a previous owner had installed. The roof leaked, so the wet wood was a real buffet for those guys.
