I believe it was the Trans Am that first sported the orginial "head up display".... the Tach on the hood. Later used on the GTO and various other cars.
80 and 81 tas had some form of boost?
and about the fiero, it was worth every penny it sold for.
In 1980 the turbocharged 4.9 liter 301 was introduced. The turbo 301 was meant for you to feel like you were driving a 350 but would be more gas economical. Specs are 205 hp at 4000 rpm with 310 pounds of torque, 7.5:1 compression at 9 psi of boost. The standard 301 specs are 150 horsepower at 4000 rpm and 240 lbs. of torque 2200 rpm. The 301 turbo also was used in the official Indianapolis 500 Pace cars. these cars were white with black striping and the Indianapolis 500 logo on the side and Nascar logos on the rear quarter panels. The hood scoop for the turbo changed from being in the center to the left hand side, and also was molded into the hood. There were turbo boost lights added on the back of the hood.

Close, it was actually the 67 Firebird. The HOOD-MOUNTED TACH made a big impression on Jackie Stewart, from the race-driver'* viewpoint. "For most cars," he says, "this is where the speedometer belongs. The driver need not take his eyes from the road to read the dial—an important safety feature."
