Once while visiting Decatur, Alabama, this pretty little thing asked me if I wanted a Coke. I said yes, maam, not wanting to offend the little minx....

She handed me an Orange Crush.

WTF.

I've never heard anyone actually refer to pop as soda in my life at least around here....

Living in Iowa I learned to say "pop," but decided to start saying "soda" just to be different in high school. Then I moved to Arizona where everybody says "soda" anyway, so it worked out. Now I'm a pilot, so all I need to say is "liquor."

It'* funny because when I was little, Pop was pop. Someone at a restaurant asked me when we were in Philly if I wanted a soda (I was only 5), and I had no idea what they meant.

I've always called it pop. When I moved to Mississippi they tried correcting me and said "you gotta say coke and then they say what kind and then you tell them dr. pepper or whatever" which I told them "it makes no sense. If it is someone I know that knows I only drink sprite then all I should have to ask is "please get me a pop" if I'm in a restaurant I will just as for a sprite. Why add too many words????"

They told me that the only people that ask for pop or soda here are yankees or african americans

Its more of a North/South thing I reckon
