Whats the -a stand for? Air brakes? One of my good friends from school is starting the process of getting his CDL, and he plans on getting air brakes, tanker, hazardous(that doesn't look spelled correctly), and school bus....why? Just because he can I guess :?

THe A is that you can drive anything over 26,001lbs.
X- Tankers
P is for Passengers
H is for Hazardous Material

The Class like A, B, C or D is for the weight of the vehicles your allowed to drive.

The letters X, P, H, T are endoursments

the T is for Doubles and Triples.

My school has a really good program for that. JJ Keller (real big wig in the trucking industry) just dropped $500,000 to our truck driving programs. Good luck.

You can drive anything over 26000 lbs with a C.....Which is school and transit bus types. B is your standard straight truck or dump truck. A is a combination vehicle which is tracto/trailer applications....Air Brakes are mandatory with a Class A, B and C are optional....I believe....except I think for a bus license you have to get a passenger endorse ment... I have my Class A...It'* a walk in the park.....Good Luck and enjoy class!
