Follow me here. All other GXP'* have received a more powerful engine than previous models had.
Bonneville got the 4.6l
Grand Prix got the 5.3l
Solstice got the turbo
The Torrent is getting a 264 hp motor above the 185 it had.
But now the G6 gets an engine it already had...
See where I'm going?

Makes sense to me. What market are they going after? The G6 is obviously aimed at the later 20s demographic, so what do they do when they want to make a "performance" car? The slap a body kit and a big wing on it and call it a GXP. Makes sense to me
