If the car is stock then it is a 305. Third Gen Fbodys never came with a stick with the 5.7. Here are 2 good sites for your friend. www.thirdgen.org they have a LOT of info, but are strictly a tech only site, the community site is www.3rdgen.org but most of the people on 3rd just go there to BS cause there is no "lounge" on thirdgen.org . They are fun cars to have, I had an 84 Z28 and a 88 GTA. If you do not think its stock, you can check on the side of the block under the car, there should be a stamp on it. Visually you cannot tell the diference between a 305 and a 350 by looking at the motor without ripping it apart. But those 305 TPI motors with the manual did pull pretty good for the time. Check out the Vin and RPO decoder on thirdgen.org tells you a lot about the car and the options. Also tells you your Rear ratio and posi or not, which can help the "pull" effect out a lot. HTHs, now I miss my Z28
