I don't think they really make that much compared to other sports. Maybe the best players will get about $6-7 million/year. There isn't a whole lot of endorsement money around either as they wear helmets, and few close-ups of them, so it'* unlikely that anyone other than a diehard fan would ever recognize a player away from the ice.

Also, Keep in mind that the hockey season is something around 9 months, and players play offense and defense(except goaltenders) as it is so fast paced.

But yeah, more than most of us will make in a lifetime.

Hockey players make good money, its just the head commisioner of the NHLPA is a totall ***. Fast paced, a lot of rules, and regionally challenged contribute to some of the lack of audience.
