The draft
I dont want to start a heated debate, please dont make it that. Admins please lock it if you feel its needed.
With that said one of my professors told us that the draft would be instated before the end of the year is over. I dont know how much he means it but it really did get me thinking about it.
Hypothetically, if the draft was instated and you were of age (like me), what would you do? What would be your feelings on it?
Personally I do NOT want to go to war, and would do what it takes to avoid it if i were drafted. However i do know that under the Patriot Act, Canada is not suppsed to accept Americans eligible to be drafted. Correct me if I'm wrong on that. But I think its my choice wether I fight in the war and should not be forced to do so. In breif, if the draft comes, Canada here Icome!

There wont be no draft.
Im 20, and if I was drafted I would go to wherever they send me. I am, and always will be a cold blooded American, and wont find me going anywhere else.
My best friend joined the Guard, and was activated to Iraq. Got in a bad accident and has had over 30 surgerys and several amputations to his body, ironically enough he said that was one of the best things that has ever happened to him. I will never understand what he means by that, but can only respect it!

I feel for those who may be eligable to be drafted. It would definately scare me just to know it was a possibility. I'm basically useless to the services to be drafted though. My right clavical never grew together so there is about a 2" gap between the bones and the ends where the bone ends curve in opposite directions. The end closest to my neck ruves up, the other end points down. I cant' carry anything heavy on my shoulders because my right shoulder is only supported by the rear half of the clavical as the front half is messed up.

There will be no draft. Troops are slowly being withdrawn from Iraq, where the greatest number is. That will relieve the reserves and guard. Afghanistan doesn't have that many there. As Iraq continues to be handed back, there is no need.
Even if we were to stay another 2 years at present levels in Iraq, there would be no need to draft. Nor would Bush ask for it (he has his legacy to be concerned with), and congress would never approve it even if he asked for it.

i seriously doubt that the US will ever draft anybody ever again.... It would cause whoever did it (or there succesor) to loose the presidency during there next election....

I had a nephew there, and still have friends there
Every one of them, having seen what Iraq is about, feels they're doing the right thing. Take comfort in that, too.

I'm not going to put my political bias in here to keep things peaceful.
But I don't think there will be a draft. If there is one, and I'm called, I'll have to do what I have to do. Let'* just hope that don't happen...
