Default The NHL Commission Report

This sucks. I dont think the NHL is ever gonna be the same, nor do I have high hopes it will ever be a league again. I dont care if my team sucked the last few years, it was always fun to watch other games on tv. Understanding the game helps out a lot also. But hopefully they get rid of the two line pass at least.

Hmmm.... I just read a little of that transcript. What'* the deal with their profit sharing idea? I'm not really a hockey fan, so it doesn't really affect me either way, but I don't think I like the idea of profit sharing. It seems to fly in the face of good business sense in a free market economy. What are your thoughts on this aspect of the NHL'* offer?

I agree that profit sharing seems unfair.. it would be like Microsoft giving money to Nortel. But this is not uncommon. Canadian provinces share money known as Transfer Payments to help fund things like health care and education. I suppose the logic for the Profit Sharing is to make the league competative and to retain fan base. Who would want to see a league where 5 teams dominate the standings every year. The weaker teams would end up losing fans and losing money, thus the teams might go bancrupt. Popularity in the league would decrease and revenue on a whole would drop. All in all, Profit Sharing would be a good idea so that the league will remain stable. I dont know what other leagues do .. baseball has a similar system right?

They should use the NFL system. Every year a new team is in contention, and the draft is the organizations best friend.

I think salary caps are a good thing. NHL players don't need more then a few million a year right? A-Rod doesn't need 255 Million either. Specially with his unsportsmen like conduct.

I think the NFL is turning into a trading card setup almost. Coaches are lucky if they stay somewhere for a few years. It'* all about a 3 year run to the Bowl. The draft is great, and Free agency is god, but teams cant' sign people for the salary cap. It does make it more interesting though...

The Salary Cap is a good idea. The reason why the NHL hired Gary Bettman was to implement it. Unfortunately, 10+ years later, he did nothing and look what it came to. I miss hockey, but I agree with the lockout. Hopefully the greedy players, owners and league can work something out.

What did A-Rod do?

No one needs more than a few million a year. The stupid thing is that we buy their jerseys and go to their games so we contribute to their fortunes. Something is wrong when grown men make more money playing games, then Police Officers.
