Default factory theft system??

I posted this on BA also so Rat would see it, and since it is not bonneville related I figured I would leave it in the lounge, but a mod can move it if they want.

Here is the question/problem.

I have the theft system on my 2003 Malibu, wich is factory installed. when I turn the key on the light does come on so I know it is there.

BUT to day I made an extra key for it that was just intended for doors ( regualr key no chip in it). So I went out to let the car run after work and used it to open the doors.

It worked( of course I made the key, hehe), so I figured I wanted to see how this theft system works if it does start then stal or just crank. Well it started right up and didn't stall. So I drove my car closer to the door and went back in, left it running for about 15 mins and it was still fine. I even drove around with only using that key not the one I was suppoed to.

Does that mean that my theft system doesn't work?? I have not bypassed it and I did not install my car starter/alarm yet.

So if this is the case then I do not have to bypass that system with my car starter right???

That I am not sure. The key does not have PK3 written on it like most of them do. Also it is not vats cause there is no chip "on" the key visble and they stopped using that a while ago.

Usually when places install a car starter they test the resistance on the key to be able to bypass it.

There are different kinds of theft systems. There may be one for break-ins, which has sensors in the doors, trunk, hood, and a few other places.

There is also a Pass-key system which protects the car from someone hot-wiring it or from someone picking the ignition lock. I suspect you do not have the latter, so your ignition is not looking for a key with a microchip in it.

If that'* the case, a key made at the hardware store should work.

That is what I did, I made the key for it. But talking to friends of mine that install the car starters they even mention that if they don't bypass it the car won't start. I will have to find out for sure before I get my starter installed then.
