gotta love loaded topics like this either way you go your damned....I think there needs to still be a draft in someway it needs to be modified though, it dosent need to force people to join theres many people that would freely love to join an serve an that already do for that matter and for that reason I dont see why the draft as it is today need be around, now if only like 2% of the population was in the armed forces I could see more of a reason....personaly I'm with those that say its not gonna happen an if it does see me in jail playing my nintendo
It'* just legislation waiting to be put before Congress. This type of legislation always comes up when we go to war or there is any military related scare. Fact of the matter is, the draft will never be reinstituted, the public simply wouldn't put up with it. There aren't many in the United States that support the draft, let alone 60%. Draft will never happen, period, I'm not worried about it.
As a couple of us have already said, the Military wants it even less than the public does. back in the old days, when all you had to do was shoot and move, the draft could work. Nowadays, everything is so high-tech that you gotta teach people more than how to not get shot. It is nearly impossible to teach someone something they don't wanna know, and the Armed Forces don't want to waste what money they get for training (which ain't as much as you'd think) on people that will refuse to learn and will either wash out and get sent home anyway, or get the people that want to be there killed.
So, yeah, you'll always get some elected official that thinks we're gonna run short of soldiers bring up the idea of the draft every time there'* some sort of disturbance, but between public disapproval, and the Miltary saying "Thanks, but no thanks", I seriously doubt the day will come any time soon where a draft will be activated.
