That'* really too bad. I can see why cops are less friendly in areas where there is a lot of crime (kind of an "us against them" mentality, that may even be deserved), but I hope it is not a general thing and that NH is the exception not the rule.
We've found that the big thing is respect...be polite, never lie or make up excuses, call them sir or maam, and shake their hand when they finish the stop...that seems to be all it takes to make a friend of the cop who just pulled you over.

For the most part the police and state troopers here are decent enough to talk too. You can explain your side of events and most will just give you a verbal warning to stop doing dumb stuff. Now and then I'll hear a story about a cop just being a dick and not cutting any slack. The cops here also don't crack down on "little" offenses. Failure to signal is my big beef, I never see a cop do anything about that.

I can personally attest to that... I was given a verbal warning for doing 90 in a 55, about all I said to the guy was "Yes Sir". He did have a few smartass comments, but on the road I was doing 90, I fully deserved them . From my experience, cops are pretty cool.

And as a side note, 90 in a 55?! Wow, you got off easy!

back in my even younger and even stupider days, i got stopped for running a stop sign, a stop light, then two more signs, all while doing 90+ in a friends car...
cop was very nice considering, skated away with only one year probation and two years suspended, cop said he could have it taken away forever, turned out to be a learning thing, i'm a granny driver now, especially after i rode shotgun getting t-boned pass. side
i'll never forget my heart pounding so hard i could feel it in my eyes when those red & blues lit up

Well, I'll have to answer NO. I work with the local PD in Strategic Planning, and am in the process of being appointed to the Public Safety Comission. It'* funny here. In my town, the PD has a great reputation. 12 miles away (where I work) they have an AWFUL reputation. Even with other law enforcement agencies.
Some departments issue citations based on a quota system. Find out if your town does. That'* where the public opinion of the department begins to fade.

ok here'* my 2 cents. u can't say there are good and bad cops. there are good and bad people. period. it doesn't matter if ur a cop , a construction worker , a hairstylist(me!) , black , white and on and on and on..... i couldn't say i hate cops ''in general'' cause some of them are good! but on the other hand some are dirty. that'* life eh? there are good people and bad people. just like mechanics! some are good and honest and some are dirty and twisted.
but i'd say the highest % of dirty cops here in Calgary ,Canada, are the undercovers. based on what me and my friends experienced. they could be the most cockiest and ignorant people on the earth! but then again , not all of them
but hey , like i said. that'* life. and is it ever a BIAAAAATCH!!!!!!!!!
Al
oh. and one more thing. i think one or two members here mentioned something about cops just doing their job. check this...
i went to mechanic to get my bonny inspected(out of province). now with the new regulations here in my province(Alberta) , there is NO WAY your vehicle can pass an inspection with a cracked windshield. so anyway, i make an appointment at this place here for an inspection , take it down there , to make a long story short , he could have told me that it wouldn't pass with the cracked windshield. so he failed it, charged me $130 , and told me to bring it back fixed and it'* gonna cost me another $65 if all is good! Now, do u call that ''JUST DOING HIS JOB???''
if he wanted to do his job in a good way , he would have saved me $65 and told me to change my windshield first ! (since it was so obvious).
Moral is, some of these cops could just give WARNINGS ,instead of ''just doing their job'' HARDCORE all day long.
BUT THEN AGAIN..............
