I just ask because I've come across a few posts since I've been here that have been really anti-law enforcement (a couple I've been really sickened by). I jumped on someone once, but I don't want to cause trouble around here. I'm just wondering why, and how many people feel that way.

I haven't had a prob with the police, but I'm generally law abiding. If you mind your own business, they leave you alone. Let them go after the ricers.

I got stopped once for doing 80 in a 50 (all kph bear in mind ) he ended up giving me the minimum fine and I went off on my way...generally happy, it could have been a lot worse, and I learned my lesson.

They have a job to do like everyone else, some have bad days, while others have good days.....

Just like Agent Smith says..." Only human "

I don't think anyone REALLY hates cops.. they much like most drivers out there just don't like it when SOME <--- ( Magic word ) cops think cause they have the badge, gun, donuts ( bagels for the healthy ones ) that they're above the law and get really cocky with you as if you're on Americas Most Wanted cause of the badge gets to their heads. then they bomb through a stop light and turn without signallin cause they ARE the law and break most road laws ( like idling up here in Ontario )

And No one likes to get a ticket.. ( not including insurance companies look into your driver history too to see the amount of tickets you may have )

The key thing is $$ out of ppls pocket for some really small B.*... ( there will be some that'* warrented obviously ) when they should be out busting the big timers like Drug dealers sellin to kids, physical idiots out there hurting people and so on

Well that'* basically the way I feel...but I have read some stuff here that is a little disturbing. I am acquainted with a few cops, who are great guys; my favorite uncle was one for many years; and my husband is working on becoming one (p/t, in addition to teaching) so I feel a little irritated when I encounter cop-bashing. Don't these guys do enough for us, risking their lives daily to put away dangerous people? It seems to me that if you don't like the laws you get caught breaking, either don't break them (imagine! ) or take it up with those who actually make the laws...it'* not the cop'* fault.

Sorry, venting over...thanks.

BTW, I was talking to 89 because he was the only one who posted when I started writing this.

I know a few police officers as well, and one who is starting school to become one, she is very excited. Its difficult work but its necessary in our society. The majority of the off-keel actions are usually started by unruly people that more-then-likely deserved it.

Good luck to the hubby in his program..keep us safe

I can see that, but the cops I know hate giving tickets. It'* just a bullsh*t part of their job that they have to do every now and then...they mostly give warnings. You might be surprised by how different the job they do is from what we see every day. In my area you can take a ride-along, and basically go with a cop for his whole shift. My husband did it and said he was very surprised at how nice the guy was, and how many people he pulled over without giving a single ticket.

For the most part you can get out of tickets by just being polite and honest.

I'm not Dissin them.. but just helpin with why people MAY not like them. But they TOO are humans and have bad days.. and they too have quotas to meet. I will agree that it'* their job and isn't the most pleasent part of their job ( and if they didn't do it.. everyone would be running red lights and such ).. but lets say that not a lot of people would praise ANYONE for great service ( that could even stem to when was the last time you told a manager in a retail store bout an associate that helped you out tremendously ) .. but everyone is quick to bitch and moan.. people in general tends to remember the bad times.. and not the good times ( kinda like relationships when it fails too )

If you're thinking of me, I don't hate 'em.

I know a few cops that I talk to and they're funny, good guys. I may just vent too much. But the reason I don't LOVE them is I have been pulled over 2 specific times for basically NO good reason. The first one had a bad attitude saying "You were on my ***." I said, "I'm sorry I wasn't." But he insisted I was on his *** in a way that any person on the street would, you know what I mean? He wasn't professional at all.

And another cop pulled me over for going through a yellow light! He kept me waiting in my car for 20 minutes!! I literally looked in my rearview mirror and saw him reading the newpaper! Just a lack of respect for people'* time is all. It can definitely change your views on them. I have a few friends who have been jerked around and lied to by cops, etc...

But I don't look at a cop and think bad things about them as a group. If I come across one once in a while that is disrespectful, I will choose not to like that cop. But I don't profile them all as bad.

I obey the law so I really don't worry about them. Just a couple past experiences and real stories from ppl I know that can change your perspective on them sometimes.

I wasn't specifically referring to anyone...don't worry.

And I understand where you're coming from. I have met at least one cop (a rookie at the time that we nicknamed "*****") who was a jerk to us...professional, but too picky with a chip on his shoulder. The funny thing was, we met him in a different context later and he had gotten much better (relaxed a little I think), and we had to rename him "the cop formerly known as *****". Now he'* sort of a friend to my husband.

Oh, and as for the newspaper, that may have been dispatch'* fault...if he was waiting for your info to come back he may have just been killing time...though it does look unprofessional.

That could be true I guess with the newspaper thing. But if I were the cop I'd definitely apologize to the person I was holding up. That'* just how I am.

And Drifter brought up a good point about cops' authority 'going to their head." It occurs everywhere, but here I've seen it so many times! I was been behind a cop that ran 3 red lights! (this was the one that actually pulled me over and said I was on his a$$. I wondered why if he was in such a hurry to not wait for a green, why did he get behind me and pull me over to harass me) Sometimes they stop, wait 3 seconds and go. I've seen those that turn on their lights at a red light, drive through the red light, and then turn their lights off. There are a lot that abuse their authority and they should obey the law as anyone else, but there are those that don't unfortunately, and it'* those cops that give them a bad name in many ppl'* eyes.
