Default Dale Jr. penalized ouch!

NASCAR announced that the #8 Chevy team has been penalized
and fined for rule violations committed last week at Darlington. The #8
team was found to have violated Sections 12-4-A (actions detrimental to stock
car racing), 12-4-Q (car, car parts, components and/or equipment used do
not conform to NASCAR rules), and 20-3.1.3B (the NASCAR-approved upper and
lower rear wing mounting brackets must not be modified to obtain a rear-wing
angle of less than zero degrees or more than 16 degrees) of the 2007 NASCAR
rule book. Crew chief Tony Eury Jr., has been fined $100,000 and suspended
from NASCAR until July 4, 2007 which includes this weekend'* Nextel All-Star
Challenge and the next six Nextel Cup Series events. He has also been
placed on probation until Dec. 31, 2007. Driver Dale Earnhardt Jr., has been
penalized with the loss of 100 Championship Driver points. Car owner
Teresa Earnhardt has been penalized with the loss of 100 Championship Owner
points.

POINTS:: the 100 pts penalty drops #8-Dale Earnhardt Jr. out of the
Chase and to 14th in Drivers Points, now 721 behind the leader and 54 pts out
of the Chase and vaults #26-Jamie McMurray into 12th and the final Chase
spot. See the updated standing on my Drivers/Owners Pts standings after
Darlington

Ouch!!!
I did read though that jr. plans on helping Eury pay the fine. I think that is very cool.
And although I am not a fan of Jr. , I do think that a much bigger deal has been made of this than necessary. Rules are rules, but from what I understand, Eury didn't know the parts were on there, and they had no advantage by being on there.

Not pissed. Very disappointed in Nascar. Keep in mind, there are still several races before the chase begins. He'll be back up there.

Dale is paying the entire fine levied against Tony Eury Jr. (his crewchief AND cousin).

The stoopid thing about all this is that NASCAR gave them those parts during COT testing several weeks ago. They were simply put in the 'build' bin at DEI and were used to build that particular car. It was an assembly error.

The parts gave NO competitive advantage. The wing was at the proper height and angle, and fit the template perfectly. The brackets were the wrong 'design' and did not match the FINAL approved print.

My guess is that it was a rigidity/safety thing. They don't want these things coming off and sailing up into the stands when the car hits the wall.

HOWEVER, Nascar had clearly communicated 2 weeks ago that COT infractions would be $100k and 100 points this season. In this particular case though, I think Nascar needs to take a good look at how this happened, and admit they're partially liable due to DEI testing these parts for them initially.

Thats utter bull in my opinion.....

However I heard the wing was at a significantly higher angle ,or at least thats the way the trackside show explained it ??

None the less that is over kill on nascars part...

Now to get jr over to RCR and plant his rear in the ol #3 ....

Bummer.
NASCAR should take some responsibility for not properly controlling test parts.
