My friend and I messed with 6 escorts in 2 months, all of them were the 96-99 with the 1.9 4 Cyl.... Every single one of these engines blew up in one manner or another... One had 70,000 miles and was driven by an old lady.... The highest milage was 150,000 miles...

The 70,000 mile car had thrown a rod complete with piston throught the oil pan and block... Should have seen the hole it left... and we drove it 1 mile on 3 cylinders from the ladies house... Funny the oil pan still had a bit of oil in it .... We almost died when we saw a bit of oil on the driveway.... Got under there and looked and wow.... Big hole... No rod, no piston...

The other was knocking badly.... we got the engine out, and decided to pull the head.... we found a piston broken in 3 pieces... The top was fractured clean off, and the bottom of the skirt of the piston was split in 2....

Keep in mind that none of these engines had any timming issues... They all just blew up... we knew what to tell people not to buy at that point...

BTW the friend has 2 Buick V6 powered cars....
