Our warrantys were I work are the same way....but they're made to save the company'* ***. The salesman on commision get 20% of the warranties they sell. But the point of saving the company'* *** by selling them is, the more they sell and don't have to warranty anything, just makes a really nice "cushion" in the account to easily cover the bad ones or lemons and what not. Also kinda helps to keep some prices low.

They're great for some things. The PRP (replacement) works great, the PSP (service) isn't as good. Best Buy employees aren't on comission for those, but the dept that gets the most in a time period might win a prize, etc.
They do have good things about them, but i don't like being pressured into it, or harrassed.

I worked at best buy for a time. In the home theatre department. There is no commission, but there is a quota of certain things we had to make, including service plans. On the more expensive items its worth it but not on the cheap ones.
