So, today I pick up a nice new flat screen LCD for my new pad
And the next thing ya know the service dood is tryin to pimp the ever popular Service plan on me. Now, I'm all for warranties, but a factory warranty is good enough, even if I have to cover shipping. Basically for $150 dollars I get 1 year complete coverage from Best Buy and they will replace it if something breaks. So lets see, if thats the case then BB is endorsing garbage products. If something is prone to break why would a big chain like BB stock said product.
Its like paying for another monitor IN CASE my new one breaks....but I'll get it for freeeeee :?
Instead of telling me about consumer reviews on the prodiuct or how well its held up to public abuse in store, he'* pimpin the insurance...gah! I hate it! Do any of you work for Best Buy or another tech store (chain store) whats the deal? Do you get extra dough for the service plan pimpage?
BTW the monitor is a BenQ 17" silver on black...we use em here at work for some staff and it rules...so I got one

ah you went with BB eh.
I have a friend who used to work for Future Shop. The rep apparently gets 50% commission on the extra service plans. Thus, the reason why they push them so much.

Dude, what I do when they push that ****, is say "Well, if [the item you are purchasing] is so crappy, that I need to purchase the service plan, then obviously I shouldn't buy it." And walk out. Go to some other store.

they don't get comission for sales but they do for selling warranties. they're only doing their job.
It'* funny though how businesses always say that they sell the warranty for the customer'* benefit but it'* not. They make a LOT of money off of them, or else they wouldn't try to sell them.

Ya, thats what I was implying Dano, I dont get it...factory warranty is enough for me. Most if not all techology is disposable, so I hate having my time wasted discussing service plans.
What model is it, Jim? My brother wants to know
Said brother also says that while BB sales reps don't get commission, they have to meet a (soft) quota on the extended warranty sales.

Since I usually only use Best Buy for computer parts when thier sale price is the best, I just tell them "I am the Warranty". AND, it'* a lot easier to get 'em to give up when it'* a product under $100 or so...
