The 17 year broods are the ones that came up in the eastern Midwest in '99
They are black w/yellow wing veins and red eyes.
The yearly ones are are green w/black wings and eyes, and they have reddish markings on their back.
Please consider me an authority on cicadas, my mother did many programs at the park she works at as Senior Naturalist(read; THE BOSS), and I learned much from her.
You may remember her, to tout one of her programs, she ATE a cicada on local TV .
The video ended up playing in the Virgin Islands, Europe, and on the scoreboard at Jacobs Feild.
