Oil changes said to ignite Hondas

http://money.cnn.com/2004/07/09/news...ex.htm?cnn=yes

At least 27 Honda CR-V sport/utility vehicles from the 2003 and 2004 model years burst into flames shortly after getting their first oil changes, according to newspaper reports Friday.

Yep, every reason helps.

Besides, you either have to be a complete moron not to know how to install an oil filter (in which case what does that say for Honda dealerships) or Honda made it so difficult to do that if a tech cant do it right, how can the owner of the vehicle be expected to accomplish this task easily every 3 months.

That'* what I was thinking. Unless those 27 people all go to the same tech, who spells his nam "X" (in crayon) and whose certification is hand drawn.....

Not to mention that those same techs probably improperly installed filters on other vehicles, but will not burst into flames because of a poorly engineered filter location.

My neignbor(who has owned 2 Accords in the past) was considering the Honda CRV. But one of the many reasons he went with the Toyota RAV4 was the Oil Filter location. I truly think Honda does not want the average Shade Tree Mechanic to change his/her own oil becuase of the relative inaccessibility of the Oil Filter on their engines.
