97 Dodge Dakota transmission
My brother'* 1997 Dodge Dakota with the 5.2 Magnum V8 is having tansmission issues at only 52,000 miles! When shifting the transmission shifts very harsh making the truck surge forward with every shift. sometimes upon deceleration the transmission will jump between 1000 RPM and 500 RPM all while the engine is idling extremely rough. The engine starts idling really rough as the transmission is downshifting into neutral from first gear when you stop. Upshifts are also harsh on it. on light acceleration the entire truck will jerk violently with everyshift. Are these transmissions known to have a short service life? It sure seems lik eit. It'* always acted kind of funny for a transmission, but now, it is barely working at all. any ideas?
He still owes 5,800 on the truck but he is looking at getting either a 2000 Grand Prix GT, or a 1995 Bonneville SSEi. I told him to get the SSEi.
Souds like the Dodge Dynasty I once had. Lasted me a month before the trans went. As I always say to Chrysler owners. "Get rid of it before it gets rid of you". Oh yea, every Caravan on my street is on its second trans.
