Default 400,000km on a Sunfire, is that possible?

Hey,

My friend has a friend that (according to him) has a 97 Sunfire that just turned 400,000km.

I have yet to see it, but he swears it'* org engine & transmission.

The car is driven about 200km per day... 90% or more is highway driving.
The cars owner says it gets new oil and transmission fluid every 5000km. He also says he babies the car.

Is that possible from a Sunfire?
I mean 400,000km is nothing from a Volvo or VW.... but a Sunfire?!?!

Why not? Those 4 bangers just go and do it reliably.

Once in a while, you will find one of those 4 bangers that last forever.

I have a friend that spent some time doing a reliability study on that engine/tranny combo, and said that the ones they're building now are easily reliable to 300,000 miles. neglect will kill those before anything else...

Those 2.2s and 2.4s are very reliable. I've had two different Cavaliers in my day. The one had 170K when the head gasket went. The other one, my 97 had 187,000 before we sold it in January.

They last largely in part because people don't expect much out of them and don't push them too hard. I never beat on mine and changed the oil every 3,000 miles. They're not as bad as a lot of people seem to think!
