ok, i know we have some ford guys here and im looking for some advice.

my dad has a 98 escort that the mech said the cam was seized.

my question is, are there other, more desireable engines that will be a good candidate for a swap? maybe better peformance, but not at the sacrifice of mpg. he said the vin p sohc got close to 40 mpg. does the dohc version get better?

yeah yeah, i know. but i have asked on other ford forums. and there is lack of enthusiasm for the escort. yeah i know hard to believe huh?

i know there is a few ford guys here, so i figured id ask.

edit, so far this is the only response i have had so far. and this guy answered a question to which i didnt ask.

I doubt the DOHC would work. Even if the head bolted on, the valve releif on the pistons probably wouldn't line up.

The Escort is a little out of our expertise. Most of us are pretty dedicated to larger cars. Even our F*rd lovers are more about the Mustang, T-bird, and trucks.

That said, yes, there are some more desirable motors for the Escort, but I'm not sure about swaps, or even if you can still find them. The 88.5 GT used a 2.0 with cast headers that made some decent power. Other than that, you could look at the Focus motors. There'* even a good amount of aftermarket for the ZETEC, I believe.
