Default Is there a governor

I have a 2013 gmc sierra 1500 denali with a 6.2 v8. When I accelerate and hit 100 mph the truck shuts down as if there
were a govenor on it. Is this the case and if so can it be eliminated with out changing anything else?

I do believe as per federal regulations it is governed at 105 mph. Yes you can have it removed but you need to buy a programmer or send your PCM out to be reprogrammed. I'm not sure why you would want to much faster than that with a full sized truck. The reason they do such things is for your and others safety.

I agree I don't know why you would wanna go faster than that in a truck. It dosent have a governor but controlled by the computer as 75 racer said. You would have to do after market like 75 racer said programmer might or send the computer out. Repair shops can not reprogram it or anything as it is illegal to do so. The government sets the shut off points for vehicles.

Your tires are also probably only rated to around that speed.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate it. My tires are rated to 120 mph and I don't normally need to go that fast but there are certain instances when passing that you hit the gas and it gets to 100 mph and you still need a bit more to get around safely.

look into blackbear performance for a tune, always get good reviews on the gm trucks. if you want to tune it yourself hpt and efilive support most of the gm trucks, but you will have to look to verify. i havent heard anything good about the "preboxed" tunes like diablo and such.

I agree. Get your own programmer or send your PCM out to have it programmed. HPtuners or EFILive are probably the best programmers you can buy.
