Default Dome light electrical problem!

I have a 2013 Chey Silverado 1500 ext. cab. My problem is with the dome light. There is a bunch of scenarios.
1. Dome light does not work if manually pushing the button.
2. Will work when doors are open.
3. Dome light dimmer switch will not completely dim dash lights but when pushing dome light button to turn on, the dash lights will go out. This happens with the doors open.
4. With doors open and the dome lights on you can push the manual button and turn off.
Soo the problem is you can not turn on each dome light manually.

What'* the story on this vehicle? Have you had it a while and it just started doing this? . . . or has it encountered some trauma in its life? . . . or recently purchased? . . . or ?

I believe what you are talking about, is a fixture with three lights...one is the dome, and the other two are reading lamps......there should be a switch for each reading lamp.....the only switch for the dome lamp is the dimmer switch on max....

1. Dome light does not work if manually pushing the button.

So when you push the button, you are trying to turn on the individual reading lamp? Do your vanity lights work? They use the SAME power and ground....

2. Will work when doors are open.
BCM gets signal from door switch and provides power to dome lamp.

3. Dome light dimmer switch will not completely dim dash lights but when pushing dome light button to turn on, the dash lights will go out. This happens with the doors open.

With doors closed and you turn dimmer to max, does the dome light come on?

4. With doors open and the dome lights on you can push the manual button and turn off.
Soo the problem is you can not turn on each dome light manually.

So, when the door is open, you can push the manual button, and the dome or the reading lamp goes out? If you push it again, does it come on?

Tech II, Yes with the dimmer switch turning on the dome lights and yes to manually turning dome lights on and off with doors open. There is four dome/reading lights in the headliner. Each has there own manual button to turn the lights on and off. The dome lights and or reading lights are the same. I'm assuming a ground or feed back. I have disconnected the front two dome lights to see if there was a problem but still same thing happening with the rear dome lights. No work has been done to this vehicle to cause a grounding problem and it just started out of the blue.

The fixture I saw in a wiring diagram, has two reading lights, which are controlled by switches.....the dome light does not have a switch on the fixture....only switch for the dome is from door switch input to the BCM and from the dimmer switch...

No BCM positive that bypasses the switches?

The dome light and reading lights are the same. It has 2 for the front and 2 for the back. All have buttons to turn on and off. When the doors are open all four come on. When doors are closed your suppose to be able to turn on each light manually with the push button. They do not turn on.

According to the wiring diagram, there is a front dome fixture and a rear dome fixture......

On the front, if you open the door or turn the dimmer switch to max, the two lamps in the front fixture will come on, close the door and they will go out/time out.......with the door closed, each switch will turn on each individual light on....in this fixture the reading lamps and dome lamps, sued the same bulb......

On the rear, the fixture is wired differently.......when you open the door or turn dimmer switch to max, only the dome light should come on.......shut door and the light should go out/time out....the other two bubs are reading bulbs, and not used a dome lamps(like the front are).....they only come on, when you press the switch for each light.....

That is how they are SUPPOSE to work.....

Cathedral asked you if you just purchased this vehicle, or have owned it for a long time and this just started to happen?

No. This vehicle is my dad'* and he bought it brand new. No work has been done and this problem just started. Where should I start looking first?
