Default Adding a DC Socket to a 2011 GMC Yukon

Hello all.

I want to install my dash cam and radar detector but need to install a socket under the dash. I am looking where I can install this under the drivers side dash, I can get the volt meter out and start looking, but thought if someone knew of a spot that would be better.

(2011 GMC Yukon XL Denali V8 6.2)

Thanks,
Rodger

Are we talking about something like a cigarette lighter receptacle?

And you are looking for a power and ground to hook it up to?

Yes I am looking to add a cigarette lighter (DC Socket) under the dash. I would need to connect a positive and negative wire so it could work. I would like to place this under the dash so it is out of the way and view.

I think the easy way would be to chase the wires that go to one of your existing power ports and add to that. A detector and camera won't consume enough power for this to be a concern.

I did forget to mention one thing. I would like the outlet to only have power when the car in on.

You can get a ground anywhere.....can run a wire directly from battery(using a toggle switch), or one of the huge fuses(THAT ONLY GET POWER WITH KEY IN ON POSITION), and use a smaller inline fuse to protect the circuit.....

Agree on this. Or also you could install a solenoid-enabled circuit and find ignition-on same as Tech II mentioned.

I installed an "add a circuit" in my fuse box. I took one of the 30 amp fuses. I then connected it to the outlet I have with a 15 amp fuse. I made sure all the connections are secure. I connected the ground to a screw under the dash that goes to 10m to hold the molding together. It all seems good, but now when I make a left and only a left turn not even a full turn just go to the left the power cycles until I straighten up. What did I do wrong? Thanks - Rodger

Disconnect what you did and see if it goes away.

I did not do anything and now the dash cam stays on all the time even when I make a left. Not sure what was going on.
