2005 Equinox problem
My daughter has a 2005 Equinox...... a few weeks ago her engine overheated and she pulled into a parking lot to let it cool down...... when it cooled down she restarted vehicle and put it in gear and the vehicle did not move..... I met her and had the vehicle towed to me house...... every since the vehicle would start but it would not move. I put my Launch Scanner on it to see if it had any codes and the scanner told me the vehicle had no Powertrain Equipped on this vehicle........ what is going on? I have not had time to look at the vehicle yet, but will this next week....... I'd like to have a few ideas to start with........... Does the vehicle have a bad transmission and/or torque converter.............where should I start in looking for a fix? I know what the overheating issue is, but I need a recommendation on why the vehicle won't move............

What was the nature of the overheat situation? . . . as in, she saw the needle on high or a red light or . . . ?
Is the engine oil full and in good condition?
Is the coolant full and in good condition?
Is the transmission fluid full and in good condition?
How many miles on the vehicle?

I checked all fuses and they are fine.... my cheap scanners work just fine....the expensive bi-diectional scnnaers I have won't find the Powertrain

The issue with the overheating is a headgasket.... I have been limping it along with Blue Devil, but it is time now to change the head gasket............. I have just never dealt with a situation where the transmission all of sudden began not to work....when a transmission goes bad there is a time of slipping and you know you have a problem..........

Depends on what the problem is with power and grounds. I agree with carfixer007 on this. You can't talk to the PCM and at the same time the transmission doesn't engage. Both could be diagnosed by themselves as communications issues, and having them at the same time makes it a zillion times more likely that the issues are related.
