Default OnStar/AT&T WiFi Auto Join

I have a 202 Chevy Silverado 1500. This is NOT a vehicle specific issue. It started a couple months ago and I have numerous friends having the same issue. Phones no longer AUTO JOIN the vehicles Wi-Fi/Hotspot network when the vehicle starts. There was zero issues until a couple months ago. OnStar points the finger at AT&T points the finger at the cell phone manufacturer and vise verse. It is NOT a phone user issue or a single user issue. This is a HUGE problem for many customers. Any user MUST go to phone settings, select WiFi, select vehicle network name and only then will it connect. Again it NO LONGER AUTO JOINS the network. Tech support personnel disrespect users blaming them for not knowing how to set up their phone and vehicle network. When is there going to be a resolution to this problem effecting the masses. We pay good money for service and the service is not being provided by anyone.

By your wording, it appears you might believe gmforum.com has a direct tie to General Motors Corporation. It does not.

GMForum is here to assist folks with their vehicle issues. We can help troubleshoot your individual issue, but can't speak to what is needed to fix this problem for many customers unless they come here.

In your case, it appears that something caused all devices to stop auto-joining the vehicle'* WiFi. Is this correct?

If so, what devices are you attempting to connect, as in specific makes and models?

How long do you wait for them to auto connect?

What cellular carrier are they tied to?

What date did this behavior start?

iPhones & Android. As stipulated these phone auto-join all known networks as they are supposed to do. It is only the GM vehicle that can not be auto joined. I have been in contact with OnStar, AT&T and Apple. All point fingers at the other. Also I do understand that others would need to come here to hopefully get some help with this issue. However, this is NOT a “user” issue. So, I’m open to hearing anything related to this except telling me to check my settings on my phone or vehicle. They have been multiple times by all above mentioned companies. Lastly, this issue just started in the last 2/3 months before that everything was great.

Okay, I think a reset is needed. Not on your phones or your car, but rather on this thread.

We volunteer to help folks out for free. It helps to just troubleshoot and not start off with what will or won't be acceptable troubleshooting. If we think we're going to get several steps deep and then you're going to arbitrarily refuse some basic step, then we might be inclined to go help someone else instead. By your own words I see that you and all the experts believe some portion of you and the other experts are wrong. No matter what you or they say, nobody has come up with a solution, therefore nobody (including you) knows that they are right, therefore any or all of you and them could be sitting on the problem.

That'* where the troubleshooting comes in.

Still need an answer here.

Still need an answer here. I see a reference to AT&T, but that doesn't confirm that all devices are AT&T devices.

I see that you mentioned "this issue just started in the last 2/3 months", but can you narrow it down any more than that?

New question: How many other wireless networks are visible to these devices at the same time as they are in range of the 2020 Silverado?

Maybe it'* some literature or entertainment reference that I don't understand, like:

- Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn!
- Meet lovely Ivy Smith.
- Ever meet a fella by the name of Hill?
- Who gives a turkey?
- I am your father.
- KITT, I need you buddy!
- MAGNUM!
- Newman!

. . . or maybe oufan580 is referring to King Richard who, in some versions of the tales of Robin Hood, is off fighting the crusades . . . ?

If that'* the case, maybe "Don" would have been better, as in Don Quixote, on a grand adventure to bring chivalry back to a world that was moving away from it.

Anyways, I was really hoping to figure this one out. The Internet needs more troubleshooting of these Wifi/entertainment/convergence issues to help others out when they comes up. Right now it appears that the tech world has just added another paddle to the game of ping-pong like they've already done for years:

[Did you try restarting? Okay did you try resetting? Okay there is no more troubleshooting possible from our side, you should probably talk to them. How would you rate my service as your representative today?]

If oufan580 doesn't come back, at least there will be one more entity added to the list:

Hopefully, since this affects so many customers, one of the others will come our way and we can figure it out for them.

I personally believe I had good odds of providing one, with oufan580'* help. I have about a decade of microwave telecommunications engineering in my past, years of troubleshooting cellular (and other RF) signal issues in the emergency services environment, and decades troubleshooting vehicles and their electronics. I'd say I have a pretty good understanding of the interactions of all of these subjects with one another.

Now at least we have offered help. Hopefully oufan580 comes back to see if we can figure it out, or at least maybe oufan580 will point some of the many other customers at us.

Moved from the "General GM Chat" forum to the "GMC/Chevrolet Truck/SUV" forum as this thread requests assistance on no other vehicle except a Silverado.
