2002 Suburban stalls out on long trips
Our 2002 Suburban will die on long trips. All systems will just die and the car will coast to a stop. After a minute or two it will restart and we can be on our way. Of note it has not over heated but often has low coolant light come on. It does appear to be using some coolant as we will add but the coolant is not below the low coolant reservoir bottle. It does leak a lot of oil but we add a quart or two every 1 to 2 months. I have had it in the dealership and they cant seem to find any coolant leaks nor figure out why it dies on long trips. I appreciate any advice.
thanks
thanks
So, it won't restart right away? No codes were set?
This really upsets me when a GM dealership can't fix/diagnose it'* own vehicles.....

When it has occurred we have been on the highway traveling 50+. I haven't tried to restart until I have been able to get it off the road and parked. After sitting for a little it started right back up. They can't seem to find any codes on it and suggested I look for a code quickly if it occurred again. I have not seen any messages appear when it occurred.
It stalled again on the interstate several times. Each time it showed "low fuel" alert. It still had a quarter of a tank left. Before each time it would not have much acceleration and just eventually died even though I attempted to floor the pedal.
Can you "recreate the stall" by driving, or is it too random?
If it can't be, then it becomes a guessing game with anything that can cause a stall.......You may have to drive around with a fuel pressure gauge attached, to eliminate fuel........
If it stalls, and won't restart right away, it could be an electronic component.....
There are tsb'* on fuel injectors, and also on low fuel problems(gauge reads 1/4, but is actually much less than that)......to test this, fill vehicle......set rip odometer to zero.....after 150 miles, fill again.......continue this to see if this solves your problem.....

I have had the vehicle for about 2 years and have not changed the fuel filter. That is a good suggestion I am going to have done. It seems to occur when the tank is low on fuel but obviously not empty. I appreciate the suggestions.
That'* what I was referring to, a tsb about incorrect readings of the fuel sender.....if you drive at 1/4 of a tank on your gauge, but it is actually lower than that, then sometimes going up hills or around corners, can slosh the fuel around in the tank and possibly cause the pump to suck some air.......that'* why I suggested filling the vehicle, and drive 150 miles, and then fill it again....repeat this for several cycles, and if it doesn't stall, you have found your solution....
