My Bonnie IS a fuel efficient car (compared to what else is hanging around the garage.) It'* paid for, cheap to keep on the road, does ok on gas..It stays.
It would take several years of 5 and 6 dollar per gallon gas to make a new car worth the expense. Meanwhile, I can keep driving this one around on days when the motorcycle isn't an attractive option (forecast: RAIN)

I only drive about 2,500 miles per year and most of it around town. The cost of a new car, and property taxes, would far exceed what I am paying now.
If they made one that gets 40 around town, I would consider it and use the bonneville for highway trips.
The Prius is one but its too Ugly and not my style.
I may have to sell one Bonneville if my mother in law gives my wife her new car.
I asked him to do his math and see what his 2.7L V6 Sonata was getting on the Interstate... When he got back he told me the best he could do was 30 Mpg and even then he was doing 70-73 with the cruise... I told him I was a little shocked he didn't do better... I then told Him I do 31-32 Mpg going 75-80 Mph all day long.... He was shocked that a Full size car with a 3.8 could do that...LOL..... I would almost love to have 2.97 gears just to see what MPG'* I could get..
With the Soon to be road worthy Bonnevan( yes the Transport ) and its 2.93 gears I am wondering what MPG'* it will get.... It was rated 26 Hwy with 3.06 Gears... I have heard of people doing 28Mpg in these.... I wonder if the gears will get me to 30 Mpg with a good tune up...
I think its a shame they are killing off a good Pushrod engine when it was great for emissions, driveability and more than had the ability to turn Fuel economy gears...

In case you can't tell my vote.... You'll have to pry both the Bonneville and the 3800 from my cold dead hands

I have achieved 35 MPG in my SE with 3.05 FDR going 70 MPH on cruise. Yes the land was mostly flat (Rochester, NY to Lancaster, Ohio)

Come to think of it...this kind of topic is like a flash-back to the mid 1970'*.... Back in the days when we had a national speed limit of 55mph to conserve fuel. (Whip out the 8-tracks and in your best Sammy Hagar scream "I Cant Drive Fifty-Five!!!" )

Wow, big thread! My Bonneville gets around 24 on the highway when I don't quite get the 3-4 shift, but otherwise I'm set. I told my Honda friend that I get about 28 on the highway, and he was confused. He still thinks I'm lying.

Well, you guys are doing great.
I get 18 mpg overall in the DTS. I won't give it up. I drive 4 mile per day to and from the park and ride to get on the bus to work. I only put on 700 miles last month
