HOT DAMN! I never thought that this thread would get this big when I started it.
I won't be getting rid of my Bonneville either. Getting ready for a big tune up at 100,000 miles and maybe it'll help mileage a bit. I completely agree with the guy who said reprioritize. All I hear at work is guys complaining as well...for example one guy who complains is driving an '08 Tundra and gets 16mpg....but he drives like an idiot and he'* also 20 years old and lives at home and has no bills besides a cell phone and car payment.
Working for a Toyota dealership, I've been seeing odd things lately. People not making sense of this all as most of us on here have and they are trading out of their perfectly good paid off cars to get in a 6 year loan on a new car all to save 5mpg. I had one lady who wants to trade her '07 Camry SE (paid off) for an '09 Camry Hybrid......She only has 8,000 miles on the '07
What would posess someone to do this!!!
My only compliant on the Bonne is city mpg. I'd like to be as close to a 4 cylinder in the city as we are on the highway. $57.00 a week in gas hurts but I quit eating fast food and now I make my own coffe and it helps a ton.
Another big pain is my quest when I'm on "empty" to find a gas station that doesn't have Ethonal gas.

although the bonne isn't mine technically (parents bought/own it for me and brother), its still cheap for me, put $50ish in a week, and with the 2.86 gears, no low end pop but thats ok right?and with the lil time i've put in it, i can't help but be happy with what i have! although the family thinks im crazy for being a bonnenut
plus i got the schwinn if it really becomes a problem
Im pissed that GM axed this engine. For the power output and displacement, it has great MPG, plus the parts are plentiful, its cheap and easy to fix and still very reliable when compared to the other engines today. Everytime I hear someone diss the 3800 as 'dinosaur tech' I get pissed at the idiotic and uneducated comment. Apparently if its not 'VTECH' or not in the latest Supra then its not "modern", yet the basic design of the engines between the two are over 100 years old. So what exactly is 'dinosaur tech'???
We took a vacation from our home to Door County which is a 241 mile trip, all highway miles. We must have been doing 30+ MPG because by the time we got there the gas gauge was pointing at the 3/4 of a tank marker.
I know the gas gauge is skewed and travels faster as the gas gets lowered, so that means roughly about a third of the tank was used. You cant beat that with a stinking accord!

Man..... I just paid 4.10 a gallon this morning for gas. This is terrible..... I either need to be MUCH lighter on the gas pedal, or park the Bonne in a storage unit and buy a Cavalier. All my driving is city driving, and is totally killing me. Enjoy your profits, you money hungry bastard oil companies.
I bought my Bonnie earlier this year knowing full well that it'll get lower mpg than my 92 Grand Prix. I deliver pizza on the side and the main job is only a few miles away so that'* not bad. No matter how hard I try to drive "grandma" style, I end up with about 16 mpg city as opposed to as good as 22 mpg for the GP and 19.3 for the wife'* 2001 Chevy Venture. Yeah, it hurts, especially since the Bonnie'* been drinkin' 89 octane, moving up to 91 now that the sun is coming out more but that'* the price I pay for wanting luxury and performance. She'* staying and probably so is the GP as a backup.
We've got 170k miles, now; it will be gone by 200K. Gas mileage has been fine, comparable with the Porsches and better than the '92 GMC 3/4ton p/u. Everytime I analyze the cost of driving the old truck (72 K miles) compared to trading it in on a new one; I would have to drive a new truck 500,000 miles. Since I use the truck for only a couple of thousand miles a year, I don't think I will live long enough. This year we will likely be given an 01 Cadillac STS with 46K miles. Arrival of the STS will likely spell the end of our Bonneville. The STS gets about the same mileage on the highway and it is a lot newer mechanically. We really regret not being able to buy a new Bonneville; it'* been a great car from day one.

I still get great mileage in my bonny,Ive been driving her hard for 7 years now,for those of you who get lower than average MPG,might be time for a vehicle inspection, tune up or a lighter foot lolz.

I'm giving up my last Bonneville (already sold the Turbocharged 91) to pay for my Formula Ford race car.
I'm asking $6300 for my highly modified 97 SSEi.
