Default Who has had a "blown" or missing supercharger gask

Out of the 2 Series II ssei'* I've owned recently both of them have had blown supercharger gaskets.

Let me elaborate. When I saw blown, I mean that the gasket was not changed when the supercharger was removed. On my 98 it had a horrible idle and had no power due to a huge chunk missing of the gasket. On my 01 which I pulled appart earlier this morning I noticed it was cracked with part of it missing near where the o-rings are. That explained the hiss I was hearing. about a 1/8th inch crack from the main outlet to the rear. The more discouraging part about this whole ordeal is the fact that the 01 has never been anywhere but the dealer for repairs (I have full repair history from the previous 2 owners). I dont know about the 98 but I guess dealers dont always replace the supercharger gasket when they do top end work.

anyone else run into this?

I've pulled a bunch off and never had that problem.

On the dealer not using new gaskets..it'* possible the mechanics cut corners when the gasket wasn't in stock and a couple days or longer away from being delivered.

I'll admit I don't always change them. However if I have to re-use them on a car I run a bead of gasket maker around it.

You'll be surprised how many people don't want to pay the extra $8-9 for that gasket, same with Valve cover gaskets.

BTW-never had an issue. except on my turbo build-the sheetmetal intake didn't sit flush with the lim-blew the gasket right out-lol.

I've pulled my share apart as well, and never have seen what you're describing.

Speaking of weird gaskets, where are the torque specs for the bolts that hold down our superchargers?
