Not that easy. The 87-91 weren't electronically controlled. The 92-present are. Your PCM wouldn't be able to tell the tranny what to do.

The "E" in 4T60E or 4T65E means "Electronic". The "HD" in the SSEi or SC versions of the SE, SLE, and SSE means Heavy Duty.

If you go to the Bonneville Timeline on my website, the powertrain data is all confirmed correct.
I already knew all that.

But it might be possible and cheaper to get a tranny from an SSE of the same year with lower gearing.

no 89 stats....so here'* an 87...i'm guessing they will be close anyway depending of if the 87 had the 3.8 or 3800 like some.

87 Pontiac Bonneville 9.7 ---------- 17.3 (0-60, 1/4 mile)

I have the 3800. Only the 2 door LeSabres came with the Vin 3 3.8.

No....some 87s and 88s came with the 3.8 too. The 3800 was either an option or a luck - out.

sorry. I was referring to the LeSabres only. 9/10 LeSabres in 1988 had the 3800, it was standard on the T-Type and on the Limited Sedans. But the only LeSabres I believe that did not come standard with the 3800 on the LeSabre in 88 were the 2-door customs.
For the Bonneville, I'm not sure on which trim levels the 3800 was standard, and which trim the 3800 was optional.
