Dream on. You trade refinement for economy with a diesel.
The Transit diesel is a direct injection engine, most passenger car diesels are indirect, much smoother and quieter.

Any domestic diesels likely in the near future other than trucks?.

Not sure, but we'll probably have more information on possible cars after the NAIAS is over.
