I am looking for some advice on the value of my 2000 SSEi. The car is black with dark gray leather, HUD, (basically all the options that come with an SSEi except Onstar). I have almost 96k on it. There are no modifications other than remote start and non-factory heated driver seat. Within the past month I have put on new pads, rotors, and calipers in the rear, and the front brakes only have about 5k on them.

I am considering selling the car for something a little smaller and more economical. A dealer this weekend offered 3,400 for a trade in, which I think is quite low. I don't have any pictures of the whole car, but here is what the paint looks like on the entire car (I buffed the entire car before winter).


Any ideas of value?

dont know about the value of yours, but if it helps any:

i sold mine to the dealer for $7k -- it was an '02 SSEi with 60k miles [options were same as yours but with factory heated seats, mine was modded some, but mods didnt factor in the price]


also note: i tried to sell mine to a private party for about 3 months starting at $10k and eventually made my way down to $7k. no one bit on it.

i hope you have better luck with yours.

Well I don't have an SSEI, but I have a 2000 SE with leather, dual power seats climate control, and sunroof with about 94k on it....so similar to yours except not supercharged and no hud. I work for a dealership and my manager told me he could pick up a car like mine at auction for roughly 3 grand (which shocked me). So that'* probably where there coming up with there number on your car. Add in the supercharger and other SSEI options and I think you should be able to get between 4 and 5 grand. Just remember that most dealerships aren't going to keep a car with that many miles on the lot, it will most likely go to auction so they give you auction value for your car so they don't loose money. A dealer can also overallow on your trade by putting the profit from the vehilcle you're purchasing into your trade. Putting an extra grand into your trade in value is more effective than taking a grand off the selling price of the vehicle and I'll show you why below......

The other thing to consider when you're trading in your vehicle is the tax saving. Say the vehicle your buying is 20 grand and they give you 5 grand for your Bonne, you only pay tax on $15,000 rather than $20,000 because taxes have already been paid on your trade in. At least that'* how it works here in NY and when your taxed like us in Buffalo NY it'* a considerable 8.75% sales tax, which would save you another $438 in taxes with our rate with the example situation I gave.

Some areas use Kelly Blue Book exclusively, others use the NADA values. Both will give you three values for your car Trade In Value, Private Party Sale Price, and Dealer Sale Price
