scratch what? the window? There is a very slim possibility scratching the window as the template is usually cut on a glass window[not cars] to an already precut template for that car, or you could even cut the tint to the size on the back window itself provided you use a stainless steel razor blade knife. as long as your not pressing hard like you would to cut steak, youll be fine. The tint is as thin as a sheet of paper.

On the backing or the adhesive side? only way on the adhesive side you would "scratch" the tint would be to put a crease in it or have dirt underneath or a scratched window, otherwise it was installed improperly.
