Part of the test should be the ability to drive the speed limit. I can't count how many times I got stuck behind the elderly on a road thats posted for 55 and thier going 35 to 40 MPH. Drives me nuts.

some 65 year olds are still very good drivers. my grampa is 65 and hes probly a much safer driver than me. the only problem he has is driving too slow. but other than that hes very cautious and whatnot. you cant really go setting an age limit on stuff like that because some people arent as bad off as others.much like with drinking and stuff like that. some 21 year olds are mature enough to start doing that and be able to stop and whatnot and others are like 10 year olds.

yeah I agree, not all are bad drivers. So maybe re-test the ones who have accidents more frequently, even if its very minor. Something does seem to need done. You all hear about the old people who were loosing control of there vehicles and running people over in outdoor markets? I think one happened in Florida. It was a little while ago I guess this happened. Thats crazy

I was starting to get insulted here!

Actually, I know what you mean. Unfortunately, here in the cities, you can't narrow it down to the elderly. It seems to have become a fad to see how close you can cut it turning in to traffic. That'* why I generally stick pretty close to the speed limit on roads with lots of cross streets.

Another wierd trend here is people that will do 10-15 MPH over the limit on normal streets will only do 50 on the highway, and actually slow down on the on-ramp. I just don't get it. When I hit the highway, unless it'* really crowded, I am already at highway speed. Even on cloverleafs. I love the way those 60'* grab the raod.

Just being realistic....My glass is neither half full, nor half empty..it conains liquid.

Most people of that age are resigned to their mortality and are somtimes depressed by it. Others take the "if it happens it happens" stance. Either way their dimished respect for life factored with their bodies degeneration and reduced mental reaction time all play a part in old people not being able to drive. Granted, I will probably recant this position when/if I hit 70 + but until that time I will not be swayed from the belief that old people shouldnt be driving.

Sonny, (*in elderly man'* voice*) I don't appreciate you young whippersnappers trying to get us old farts off the road. I intend to die at the wheel at a very rip old age...and I'll take you out with me!

Seriously, "old" is relative to a person'* health--take Will Wren for example, His is an ex-Marine (right?). He is probably going to live a long time and keep active and coherent well into his 90'* (if he doesn't die of liver failure first ). And we all know how he drives (150+mph). So we won't have to worry about him. Over generalizations don't work in society. It should all be done on an individual basis.
