Default Car tried to kill me

I recently bought this used Bonneville from the daughter of the owner. He was put in a special care facility because of serious mental problems. Anyway, the remote door lock key fob was missing and my wife kinda wanted one. So, I go on E-Bay and pick up a couple for about 20% of what the dealer wanted.

Now to program these things I had to crawl under the dash and jumper a couple of wires. In order to do that I had to move the seat all the way back and as you probably know, the switches for the seat are right out front for easy access. Now I'm not a large person by any means, but it wasn't an easy chore contorting my aging body into a position to allow for the job at hand. So just as I was placing the jumper across the correct pins, I somehow contacted the for and aft seat switch with my back and I could not get out of the way fast enough to disengage the switch. That seat kept coming forward until it reached the end of its travel and I was pinned like a cork in a bottle.
I know two things for a fact!! If that seat had been able to travel 2 more inches, I'd be dead, and if my wife wasn't walking past the open door when she was, I'd probably be dead. As it is, I cracked two ribs and had large indents in my skin where the 3 switches were embedded.

I did eventually get the key fobs programed but I had my wife standing guard the whole time I was messing about under the dash.

Unbelievable. Good thing your wife was walking by then.
Glad you are alright overall, and that you were able to get the job done.

JMH, forgive me for laughing, but the mental image of this has me on my knees with tears in my eyes. Sorry about your injuries, but I'm picturing a Homeresque vision of you balled up under the dash with the seat moving back & forth pummeling you.

Sorry again, but thanks for the laugh. Hope you're not too badly injured.

BTW, if you haven't named your car yet, you might consider "Christine".

Wow. Glad to hear you are almost ok... usually Bonne'* save lives..not try and take them. PS.. trade that car in and get one with AL7'* the switches are up on the console and can't be bumped in this type of manner.

For anyone reading this.. I'd like to suggest kneeling next to the open door and leaning in slightly.
