You got me on that one. If his car is actually an SSE. I was re-reading the production numbers, and it looks like you may be right. Look at the numbers for 1998 though. This will explain why you never see them.

I have a '96 SLE with the H4U option code. As far as I've noticed, it'* the same as the SSE. The SSEI was different because it had the center mount fogs. Just kind of curious why '96 is left out everywhere (ie: 93-95, 97-98 )?

The 96 SSE also has center-mount fogs. Not wide like yours. 96 was the transition year for the subtle body change.

Bonneville Production numbers and some interesting related info can be found in Techinfo Specifications.

I didnt leave the 96 out. I was saying that in between 97or 98 they started badging them. SLE from what I can think of started in 93-present. I guess nobody mention it in 96 is because there were no major changes in that year for the package itself accept it having the newer body style. Sorry, didnt mean to leave your year out.

Appearance wise
SLE:
the 93-95 have the special body cladding
the 96 looks like the SE nothing differnt apperance wise Still has Bonneville SE on the door mouldings
the 97-99 shares the body with the SSE/i
